Faux Metal Tag

When I saw the challenge at Simon Says Monday - Show us your Metal I immediately thought of  Faux Metal and remembered a tutorial by Tim Holtz. Here is the link if you're interested.  I know Father's Day is in June but my dear Pops lives in Zimbabwe so I need to get this card in the mail (it's not called snail mail for nothing!)

Mother's Day

Hi there!
Hope you're having a great week-end.  I have a few cards to share with you today.  This card was made with a few challenges in mind and the inspiration came from the challenge at StampTV to incorporate an item that you would normally throw in the trash.  So, on Monday whilst doing the laundry I kept my used dryer sheets  (I did iron them first to get rid of the wrinkles....  wish it was that easy to get rid of mine ..... ;)

I used the following products (apart from dryer sheets and newspaper)
A beautiful life stamp by Melanie Muenchinger (Gina K Designs)
Friends 'til the End flower die (Gina K Designs)
Tea Rose small (Cheery Lynn Designs)
Tiny fanciful flourish (Cheery Lynn Designs)
Suede Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels)
Gold Color Shine (Heidi Swapp)

Entering the following challenges:
StampTV MIUM Challenge - Let's get Trashy
Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Show us your metal
Mod Squad Challenge - Mother's Day
Cheery Lynn Designs Challenge - Mother's Day theme
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Anything Goes

Who would've thought that doing laundry would be inspirational!

Thanks for looking.
Hugs
Zelda

Mixed Media Butterfly

My final post for today is a creation for my daughter's scrapbook.  I wouldn't normally choose these colors but I wanted vibrant Distress Paints and these are the only colors I have! :) After applying the distress paints and lots of water, I let it dry, applied tissue tape and ink blending with distress inks. I used texture paste for the words and arrow, applied silver embossing powder. When it was dry I used my heat tool.  I stamped a second butterfly which I colored with DI and fussy cut.

I'll be entering this in HLS Mixed Media Challenge - WingsSimon Says Monday Challenge Butterfly Beauty and TCP Wings Challenge.

That's all from me and thanks for stopping by!

My third card this week was inspired by HLS CAS Challenge -  Stencil Monoprint.  I used Hero Arts Tropical Background stencil, applied distress inks onto my stencil, misted the stencil with water and then pressed the stencil onto my watercolor paper.   The hugs die is from Simon Says Stamp.  I'm entering this in A2Z Scrapbooking April Watercolor challenge and Mod Squad Challenge Water, Water, Everywhere.

I made this card for HLS Case the Designer Challenge and here is the beautiful card Joyce made which inspired me.  The stamp set I used is Close to My Heart - Friendship Bouquet and I used Spectrum Noir markers to color my images and Lawn Fawn Stitched rectangle dies.  I'm also entering this in Simon Says Wednesday Make it Girlie Challenge

Happy Birthday

This card is for a special friend in Cape Town (South Africa) who's celebrating 'a big' birthday in June.  I had hoped to surprise her with a visit but a Skype visit will have to do :(

I used Spellbinders Timeless Rectangle die for the card and Cheery Lynn Tea Rose (small) die for the flowers.  The roses are colored with Azurite chalk ink and then I added some Frosted Lace Stickles on the petals.

Here is a close up of the flowers

Cracked Glass Technique

I had such fun making this card!  The focal image is from the stamp set Friends til the End (Gina K Designs).  After coloring the flowers I applied Versamark and Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel and then I heat set it.  I repeated this a couple of times to get a lovely, shiny glass finish.  I then popped it in the freezer for two minutes and then I was ready to crack 'the glass'.  Here is a great video by Gina showing this technique.

The background was created using the Wax Paper Embossing Technique and here is another video by Gina where you can see how she does this.  While I had my supplies out and my iron on (it's a lot more fun than ironing clothing ;), I made 8 backgrounds with various designs and colors.

Taking the leap

I'm so excited (and nervous) to post my first card on my blog.  Thank you to all the amazing people who have encouraged me to take this leap into 'Blogland' and please be patient with me while I learn and prove that you can teach an old dog new tricks :)

To create this card I heat embossed the images and applied Brusho crystals to wet watercolor paper.  I then used the same stamp, pressed it into the wet color and stamped the images again.  The images aren't crisp but it's the look I was aiming for.  I added hand drawn lines to add to the artsy feel of the card.

The stamps I used are The Simple Things (Gina K Designs) and Inspiration Mosaic.
